The “new” cryptocurrency I want to tell you about today is called MaruCoin. You may have seen the name on BitcoinTalk, or maybe even on the Atomic-Trade exchange, so it’s due time to explain what MaruCoin actually is.
MaruCoin is dedicated to Marutaro, the chinese hedgehog. As i’ve stated before, there is nothing wrong with theming or naming your cryptocurrency after animals, as they tend to do quite well over time.
Based on Einsteinium and DarkCoin, MaruCoin brings the best elements of both cryptocurrencies to the table, and adds a few new features. For example, MaruCoin is the first cryptocurrency running on the X13 algorithm.
If you have no idea what the difference between X13 and X11 is, have no fear, as I will gladly explain it to you. X13 is the same as X11, but with two extra hashing algorithms, called “hamsi” and “fugue”. This also makes MaruCoin ASIC-resistant (for now).
So let’s take a look at the basic specifications of MaruCoin :
– Combination of Kimoto’s Gravity Well and Darkcoin’s Gravity Wave for difficulty adjustments
– Automatic checkpointing to prevent 51% attacks
– Time Warp Limitation in place to make it Time Warp Resistant
– Multiple DNS Seed Nodes for fast wallet syncing
– 2.5% of all blocks get donated to a charity voted on by the community
– Promotional material (mugs, usb sticks, stickers, etc) will be given out randomly.
Some very nice features are implemented in MaruCoin, especially the difficulty adjustment part while also preventively adding code to prevent Time Warp exploiting. Seed nodes are never a bad thing either, as I can’t stand wallets taking hours to sync.
In total, there will be roughly 33,000,000 MaruCoin in existence, with blocks being generated every 180 seconds; Block rewards scale with the MaruCoin difficulty at any given time, and are therefore somewhat random.
As I mentioned before, MaruCoin is listed on the Atomic-Trade exchange. But that’s not the only place where you can find MaruCoin, as it’s also listed on both BitTrex and Europex. With a current value of about 1,100 Satoshi, there’s still room for improvement on that part.
