When my hardcover bitcoin comic came in the mail, it sparked a lot of interest within my family. Mainly because i was in charge of translating the Bitcoin comic from Spanish to English but also because they wanted to know more about Bitcoin.
What better way to be introduced to bitcoin then by ways of of a comic? As you can imagine everyone wanted to see what the comic is all about and before long i was asked by a couple of my cousins if they could borrow the comic. I agreed only if they did a interview/review about the comic.
Serge: Can you tell us a bit about yourself? So Stephan you have read the Bitcoin comic. What is your general impression?
Stephan: As an expert in comics i can give my professional opinion about the comic. I own and on occasion sell comics. In my collection are extremely rare editions of the: X-men, Marvel comics, DC comics, the entire first editions of TinTin, anime, etc. So suffice to say i can call myself an expert in comics.
Now about the Bitcoin comic. My general impression about the comic is that is is extremely well done. The hardcover version just jumps out where ever you put it so from marketing standpoint it is well thought off. Even if the comic is on a shelf it is an attention stealing comic. I had some friends over during the holidays and they were immediately drawn to the comic. So designers of the comic and the entire Bitcoin comic team: excellent job.
The drawings and artwork is also well done. I would describe it as “anime meets Europe” with a special Spanish hot pepper thrown into the mix. As a novice to the whole Bitcoin and digital currency community I spend a lot of time searching after the hidden messages and meanings that are in the comic. I really love those kinds of comics where the reader can discover some hidden things and messages that the writers and creators of the comic have hidden for all to find. This makes you want to pick up the comic again and again to see if you haven’t missed a message. I also love the artwork in front of the comic, based on one of Da Vinci’s drawings. It signifies that Bitcoin and digital currency in general is here to stay and a possible solution to some of our current problems.
So my conclusion is this: An excellent comic with hip artwork and with an informative twist. So the Bitcoin comic is a must have for everyone that loves comics ( because it is rather unique in its class). Add to that a very well though of script and the information that is provided in the back of the comic and you have a great tool that explains what Bitcoin is and how it works. The fact that it is in comic form will make it easier for everyone who wants to get involved in Bitcoin, or just want to find out what Bitcoin is, to pick a comic up.
Serge: You labeled yourself as a novice to the whole Bitcoin phenomena. When did you become involved and did the Bitcoin comic help with understanding Bitcoin?
Stephan: Well I found out about Bitcoin when they were “hunting for Satoshi Nakamoto” on the news. I know you were busy with everything digital currency so i bombarded you with questions about: the how, what and when. You did a great job in explaining everything to me but there was something that was missing.
Most people have problems imagining something “digital” especially Bitcoin. It is digital, but then you have real coins also which have a label on the back, QR code, that is the exact amount of BTC. It is nice and all but most people and listeners are struggling with the digital side of the explanation. People can’t imagine “computer money” as one of my older friends called it. It also doesn’t help that so called news sites are putting up contradicting articles on their “information sites”. (I refuse to call them “news sites” since most of them lack the intelligence to put up references in a clear visible way).
The Bitcoin comic is that bridge to that terra incognita, at least for my friends and myself. it is something that will explain to other people what Bitcoin is. So I suggest that everyone that wants to know about Bitcoin or want to get into Bitcoin , that he or she buys the Bitcoin comic first. that way you have some ready made information in your hands and it isn’t such a great leap of faith.
