After a really short night, mainly because the SWARM afterparty was so good, it was bright and early for most of us. CoinSummit London 2014 did another superb job for the second start-up showcase.
Bitpesa is focussing on the African market, in particular on Kenyan customers. Bitpesa saw an opportunity for the use of Bitcoin, since the money sending services claim up to 1.2 billion dollars in fees annually.
The reason why the fees are so high in Africa, and Kenya in particular, is because the current money transfer systems have little to no competition. That is one of the causes why the transaction fees are so ridiculously high (between the 10-28%)
Bitpesa has also 2 main offices. One in Kenya the other in the Kayman islands. Bitpesa is also following the highest standards of the EU banking and money transfer regulations and laws.
Blockvue is focussing in on blockchain information about blockchain. This is advantageous to discover the emerging trends, economies, etc. The worth of this company is in the information they can provide.
If you are doing research and need information, this it the best application out there, so far, to get your information (like network growth, transactions growth, liquidity, etc).
The creators of Blockvue see the blockchain as a filing cabinet with no query. That is why the developers created a program to make searching this extensive filing cabinet very easy. The demo application the developers demonstrated at the showcase did have some interesting features and looks to be easy to use.
This is another analytical startup. They also get information from the blockchain to give an analysis of a whole range of data. However, they seem to focus more on the financial transactions.
Bit4coin is a company that is helping the novice and people who do not have any altcoin or BTC to get some Bitcoin. People pay with fiat currency and they receive a card with a code on it. This code is the amount of Bitcoin. For example if James want to have 1BTC he will need to transfer 630 dollars/Euros to Bit4coin (the BTC price will be constantly updated so a fair and honest price is guaranteed).
Bit4coin gives the customer also another option. Instead of producing physical cards and shipping them to their customer, the customer can also just ask to receive the codes without the hassle of the physical cards.
No notes were taken during the presentation due to a toilet break.
Skyhook is a special and compact Bitcoin ATM. The developers will ship whenever they are producing so there will be no pre-orders. 175 Units have been sold already. The second generation of these ATM is underway, and when it comes out, the previous generation’s hardware specifications will be made publicly available..
XBTerminal is a handheld device for making and accepting payments. It is super easy to use and was extremely well demonstrated by Aleksander Nowak. It is less cumbersome than most of the other handheld ATMs. This product is excellent for small businesses.
This group is more about being a kind of middleman between customers and exchanges. They do not hold any currency but they broker the deals.
