We have mentioned bits and pieces coming up in the new Darkcoin client, which will be version 0.11.x. While the release date has not been confirmed as of yet, the full list of release notes on GitHub has become a lot lengthier than it has ever been. In this article, we will highlight some of these changes which we haven’t talked about before.
Most Darkcoin enthusiasts and community members will know how the new v0.11.x client is forked off the Bitcoin Core 0.9.3. This is a major change, as the v0.10.x DRK clients are all forked from the Litecoin 0.8 tree. An interesting choice, but definitely the right one in my opinion. If you think differently, let me know in the comments below!
Darkcoin will also rebrand to Darkcoin Core, a trend we have seen with several altcoins over the past few months. While this may seem like an insignificant change, it does change the direction for the branding of Darkcoin completely. In doing so, you move away from “just” the coin aspect, and focus on offering a platform for other developers to innovate.
Whereas currently minted Darkcoin blocks only mature after 120 new blocks have been found, Darkcoin Core will consider generated coins to mature after 101 blocks. It has not been confirmed at this point whether this change will be made in this client, but the coding has been put in place to do so at any given time in the future.
DRK Masternodes will receive some additional rpc commands in the form of stop-many, start-alias, stop-alias and list-conf. Furthermore, a potential masternode payments exploit has been fixed, and masternodes will be sorted randomly before picking the next winner from version 0.11.x onwards.
Even though we have mentioned the upcoming changes to DarkSend over the course of several previous articles, there is one change in the changelog which we haven’t mentioned yet. The lower DarkSend limit has been reduced to 1.5 DRK. Another small change , but it could prove to very significant over time.
Other than these changes, there is a lot more information to be found in the current changelog notes on GitHub. Everything seems to be getting fixes, updates or additions in this upcoming Darkcoin v0.11.x release, and we will keep an eye out for further announcements, hopefully including an official release date in the near future.
