The good news just keeps piling up for Dogecoin, as there is now an IOS wallet open for beta testing. While this Dogecoin iOS wallet is not an official project from the DOGE developers, it remains an interesting initiative to keep an eye on if you own one or more iOS devices. Let’s see what Doughwallet is all about!
Doughwallet will be the very first standalone wallet for Dogecoin on iOS, which comes as a bit of a surprise to me to be honest. Even though Apple has only recently opened up their app store to cryptocurrency wallets, not having a DOGE wallet on iOS just yet seems wrong to me. But luckily, that is about to change!
The base for Doughwallet comes in the form of adopting the Bitcoin SPV wallet (called breadwallet), developed by Aaron Voisine. For those of you unaware of what makes an SPV wallet unique, it creates your private keys on your device, and they stay on your device at all times.
All the Doughwallet does is communicate with the Dogecoin peer-to-peer network, without having an actual server to rely on. Because of this added feature, Doughwallet will be the most secure wallet for Dogecoin available for iOS users.
If you are interested in beta testing Doughwallet, make sure to fill in this form. Do keep in mind there are “only” 1,000 beta tester spots available, so act fast! From what we have been told, beta testing is scheduled to start at the end of this year, but not before the Itunes Connect hiatus ends on December 29th.
Shortly after the actual release of Dougwallet, the source code will be released under MIT license. Between the beta testing and the actual release, multiple code reviews are scheduled to take place, ensuring there are no security flaws to be found in the Dogecoin wallet for iOS.
