One of the questions I get asked on social media every so often is what Darkcoin masternodes are actually all about, and how to set one up. As I don’t own any DRK, I am unable to set up a masternode myself, but that doesn’t mean I can’t give you an answer to that questions. Besides, did you know you can get a notification on your phone every time you receive a Darkcoin masternode payment?
Setting Up a Darkcoin Masternode
When you are thinking about setting up your very own Darkcoin masternode, or masternodes even, there are a few things you need to take into consideration. For starters, running a DRK masternode is not free, as you need to invest 1,000 DRK in order to set up one masternode.
That does mean that, if you are interesting in running multiple masternodes, you will need to multiply that amount of 1,000 DRK by the amount of masternodes you want to run. Furthermore, you will need a separate Darkcoin wallet for each and every masternode, and all these wallets have to be synchronized to the network at all times.
While several guides on setting up and running a DRK masternode have been posted on the Darkcointalk forums, a lot of people still ran into some issues. Darkcoin community member Onetime has created a Youtube video, explaining how to set up and update DRK masternodes :
Darkcoin Masternode Tools
Have you ever heard of a nifty little Windows application called $MN$? Neither had I until today actually. $MN$ sends users a text message and/or email notification whenever they receive a masternode payment. The GUI is very simple to use, and everything is pretty straight forward in regards to setting up your notifications.
As of this writing, $MN$ is only available for Windows users, but both Linux and Macintosh releases are being worked on as we speak. Future releases will also include more customization, and features requests are more than welcome!
