The Ghent Bitcoincity initiative is still in its very early stages, but according to several reports from the team, merchants seem to be rather open-minded to the idea of accepting Bitcoin at their brick-and-mortar locations. In order to convince more merchants, a Bitcoin presentation will be held on March 2nd, with the major event to follow on April 18th. In the meantime, two more retailers in Ghent have started accepting Bitcoin payments as of late.
Arpeggio Music – Classical Music Meets Bitcoin
Arpeggio Music is a shop in the town center of Ghent and is specialized in classical music. Originally founded by Ruben Claus and Dieter Dewilde, two befriended musicians and enthusiastic instrument makers, Arpeggio Music has become somewhat of a part of Ghent’s rich and deep history. When visiting the shop, you will not only find musical instruments, but also music scores, all kinds of accessories for your instrument, and so much more – including instrument repairs.
While such a store would benefit financially from selling as many instruments as possible, the Arpeggio Music owners pride themselves on offering top notch quality, craftsmanship and advise before a purchase is even made. Whether you are looking for a harp, guitar, violin, cello or even harpsichords, Arpeggio Music is the place to be.
Fun fact : If you are looking for a musical instrument, Arpeggio Music offers you two options : either buy it outright, or you can use the store’s flexible rental system.
“We gladly accept bitcoins, whether it’s for a pick or a harp.As entrepreneurs in Ghent, we want to wholeheartedly support the boys from Ghent Bitcoinstad and help with putting Ghent on the map as the first ‘Bitcoinstad’ of Flanders. Craft and technology do not have to be mutually exclusive.” – Dieter Dewilde, Arpeggio Music
Note from the author : Arpeggio Music is located near KorenMarkt, at Sint-Michielsstraat 17 in Ghent.
Life-ID : Independent DNA Analysis
As of last week, Life-ID in Ghent started accepting Bitcoin payments for their services rendered. Life-ID is not your average store or shop, as they are an independent DNA analysis laboratory equipped to perform DNA-fragment analysis and and DNA sequence analysis. Most of these analyses are performed on behalf of individual customers.
One of their most “productive” services is the paternity test, which might come as a bit of a surprise. Other areas of expertise are bringing in quite a bit of business as well, such as determining other kinds of kinship and even the identification of humans. Anyone can request these types of analysis to be run by Life-ID, without needing a court order.
However, once an individual has received the results of the requested analysis, these results can be used for legal proceedings at a later time. By joining the Ghent Bitcoincity initiative, Life-ID becomes the fourth retailer to do so. Bitcoin payments are accepting both online and at their physical location, and the company uses their own Bitcoin address to receive payments.
