A few days ago, Joshua Bouw, International Public Relations Director of the Blackcoin Foundation, took part in a Reddit AMA. Some very interesting questions were asking in regards to his views on 2014, and what lies for Blackcoin in 2015. Time for a quick recap!
You may recall when Joshua attended the OKCoin/Huobi conferences in China earlier this year. Not only did Joshua represent altcoins during a panel at those conferences, but he put a big spotlight on Blackcoin’s place in the world of digital currency and altcoins. Thanks to attending these conferences, the first steps were towards a collaboration between BC and Huobi/BTC China were taken.
From what we learned during the Reddit AMA, both exchanges are still willing to work with Blackcoin in order to get the currency listed on their platforms. Joshua will be going back to China in order to meet with representatives of both companies in the near future, and we will be keeping an eye out for any further announcements.
One of the main aspects of Blackcoin is the amount of projects currently in development. As most of you will know by now, developing projects comes at a cost, and the question was asked as to how funding for Blackcoin-related projects will be secured in the future.
Several options are available in fact, with community funding being the most obvious and the recommended option. However, there is a realistic possibility for Blackcoin to receive Venture Capitalist funding down the line, which could mean a big financial injection is coming at some point.
Company donated funds is another option of securing funds. In order to make this work, companies who use Blackcoin for their platform/services/products, would be donating a portion of their profits back into the Blackcoin community to fund future projects.
Last but not least, tech grants through the government are a last resort option. These tech grants are also very difficult to obtain, especially when it comes to digital currency. Do keep in mind there is no official Blackcoin “company” either, so it would be a tricky avenue to explore.
On the topic of projects currently in development, a few questions have been asked about “Sentinel” aka “Blackbox”. Joshua mentions the original announcement about this project was premature, and a lot has changed since that original announcement.
Active progress on the Blackbox project is still being made as we speak. but there are a lot of technical and administrative hurdles to overcome. What we do know is that these steps are being taken as a collaborative effort, which will make it very flexible for future technology.
2015 will prove to be interesting year for Blackcoin, as the Blackcoin Foundation is branching away from external development and focusing on community + business development instead. Some of these external developer groups include Legion Development Group, Black Wave Labs and others.
Note from the author : A Black Wave Labs article will be coming before the end of 2014!
Once the funding problem, which is unrelated to donations, has been fixed, there will be a major focus on helping people start their own companies to help further BlackCoin on a long-term/permanent basis, instead of one-time projects. I’m curious to see what kind of projects we can expect in 2015.
Marketing is a key element of making Blackcoin, or any other cryptocurrency a success. Plans in China have been set in motion already, as all Chinese exchanges will change “BC” to “BLK”. The Chinese characters have also been changed in order to steer away from the negative connotation associated with “Hei Bi”.
The Blackcoin will undergo a brand direction change as well. No changes are coming to the Metro style, but a collection of resources for people to use and post will be added. No further details were announced at this point.
A lot of Blackcoin marketing efforts will be geared towards the essentials that really matter : education and understanding of cryptocurrency. However, as digital currency is a cutthroat business, efforts will be made to stay ahead of other altcoins as well.
