The Bitcoin ATM space is very competitive with established brand names vying for the top spot, while new manufacturers are crawling out of the woodworks all over the world. You can now add the very first Portuguese-made Bitcoin ATM to that list of competitors.

When entrepreneurs digital currency , good things are bound to happen sooner or later. Joaquim Lambiza, who is not only a Bitcoin enthusiast but also an experienced IT consultant, produced his very own Bitcoin ATM.
None of this would have been possible on his own though, but after he founded the Bitcoin Já company, production of the Bitcoin ATM could begin. All resources were gathered to make this Bitcoin ATM a 100% made-in-Portugal machine, as all of the design, production and ownerships is Portuguese made.
When asked to tell us a bit more about the inner workings of this new Bitcoin ATM :
“This is an entirely new model of bidirectional ATM with its own special features. It allows converting bitcoins into Fiat and Fiat into bitcoins. The Portuguese Teller Machine is the result of a rigorous manufacturing process, combined with the know-how of experienced IT professionals, translated into a versatile, multi-functional and highly optimized scalable system.“
Joaquim Lambiza – Bitcoin Já Founder
We were unable to get more details about the equipment making up the Portuguese Teller Machine, but Mr. Lambiza told us more details will be revealed during the machine’s launching event.
What we do know is that the Portuguese Teller Machine is prepared for software upgrades. These upgrades are expected to include support for altcoins, Paypal cash top-ups and service payments. Something a lot of people will get excited about no doubt!
The venue for the launching event , which is also where the Bitcoin ATM will be installed, can be found in Lisbon, Portugal. It’s an apt choice to install the device in the most technologically advanced movie theatre , which can be found in the Saldanha Residence Shopping Centre in Lisbon.
Fun fact : The movie theatre I just mentioned will accept Bitcoin payments from the event date going forward, thus becoming the first cinema in Portugal to accept Bitcoins. This may seem like a small feat at this point in time, but the more small waves we can make, the better.
The Portugese Teller Machine launch event goes hand in hand with a special screening of “The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin” movie, which we discussed at length here last week. The combination of a physical machine and the movie screening will hopefully strengthen ties between Bitcoin and the local community, which can only be beneficial to Bitcoin’s mainstream adoption.
Once the screening of “The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin” has concluded, there will be a debate featuring renowned national experts in the Bitcoin space, such as Nuno Menezes and Bruno Perdigao.
