The concept of exchange digital currency has undergone a fair few changes in recent years. While there was only one available platform to do so just a few years ago, Bitcoin and altcoin exchanges can be found all over the globe these days. But even this market needs to keep evolving over time, and that is exactly what ShapeShift.io is doing with their new Android app.

ShapeShift.io Launches Mobile Digital Currency Trading Initiative
When it comes to determining the most popular platform to exchange digital currencies, most people place ShapeShift.io among the top three. With their instant exchange between over 45 different digital currencies, and the fact that this platform does not require users to register an account, ShapeShift.io has quickly made a name for itself.
That success has lead to the creation of a mobile application for iOS users, allowing them to trade Bitcoin and other digital currencies from the comfort of their own mobile devices at any time. It was only a matter of time until this functionality made its way to the Android platform, and now, the wait is finally over.
Android users can download the ShapeShift.io application from the Google Play Store at no additional cost. Digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ether, and any of the other digital assets supported by the exchange platforms, can be traded intermittently without restrictions or personal information required.
“Immediately after we released our iOS app we were flooded with requests to create the Android version. We are always looking to fulfill customer needs, so we’re excited to release the Android app, giving users more ways to use the exchange.” – ShapeShift Director of Marketing Emily stated in a press release.
Making the instant conversion of digital assets available to mobile users all over the world could be critical for companies such as ShapeShift.io. Making the application available to iOS users first seemed to be the right choice, allowing the company to gather valuable feedback in the process. However, with Android remaining the largest mobile OS in the world, business might be about to pick up for ShapeShift.
This announcement comes on the heels of other positive news for ShapeShift.io, as the company recently saw integrations with CoinKite and BitQuick. Additionally, the Skeleton tool released by ShapeShift allows any website in the world to become their very own cryptocurrency exchange, without requiring too much technological knowledge for website owners.
Bitcoin Exchanges Need to Keep Evolving
ShapeShift.io is paving the way for how Bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchange platforms will look in the future. Consumers want quick and convenient access to buy, sell, and trade digital currencies and mobile devices will play a critical role in that experience. More and more mobile applications will be released over the next few years to transform exchange platforms into mobile experiences.
That being said, there is one major difference between most exchange platforms and ShapeShift.io. Requiring users to create an account before they can start using the exchange service is annoying, although much easier to avoid if there are no fiat currencies involved. On the other hand, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are all about conducting business in a peer-to-peer fashion, without relying on intermediaries like exchange platforms.
It will be interesting to see how exchange platforms will evolve in the next few years. Mobile availability should be at the top of the priority list for every company active in this space, though. Whether or not there will ever be a solution to buy and sell Bitcoin without account or verification through a mobile application, remains to be seen.
