It has become adamantly clear, over the past few weeks, that the Bitcoin Foundation does not have the Bitcoin development’s best interests at heart. This is not such a bad thing, as the Bitcoin Foundation should not determine in which way Bitcoin Core development is headed. In fact, it has come to a point where the Bitcoin Foundation is completely distancing themselves from Bitcoin’s developmental plans.
Bitcoin Core Devs Join MIT Digital Currency Initiative
The Bitcoin Foundation seems to be getting back on track after the recent months have been filled with scandals and even being on the brink of bankruptcy. But, with a new person in charge, it looks like the focus is shifting back to where it should have been all along; promoting Bitcoin and its blockchain technology. The first step in doing so comes in the form of joining the MIT Digital Currency Initiative.

Flaws and Perks of The Bitcoin Foundation in Its Current Form
One of the questions we ask ourselves more and more these days is whether or not we need the Bitcoin Foundation in order to make Bitcoin a success. Or to be more precise, do we need the Bitcoin Foundation in its current form, where they rather seem to be focusing on their “corporate” members instead of focusing on what this should be about : Bitcoin itself. Maybe things will be changing with the upcoming elections, assuming they will ever be announced that is.
A Recap of The Year 2014 For The Belgian Bitcoin Association
Yesterday, both Serge and myself attended the General Assembly of the Belgian Bitcoin Association. As both of us are new members,we are able to attend these kind of meetups. However, since neither of us have been a member for more than 6 months, we do not have any official voting rights. Let’s see how the year 2014 has been for the Belgian Bitcoin Association (BBA).

Support Your Favorite Charity with Bitcoin During Bitcoin Giving Tuesday
With Bitcoin Black Friday behind us, and a new week only beginning, the time has come for a new effort to increase Bitcoin awareness and bring positive attention to this cryptocurrency. Several Bitcoin organizations have come together in order to present Bitcoin Giving Tuesday, thanks to the participation of BitGive Foundation, the Bitcoin Foundation, Circle, Changetip, BitPay and Bitcoin Black Friday.
The main objective of Bitcoin Giving Tuesday is allowing Bitcoin enthusiasts all over the world to make donations for a greater cause, regardless of the amount they want to pledge. Whereas most causes have a certain minimum (US$10 for example), this campaign allows for any denomination of money to be pledged for the full 100%.
Bitcoin in Belgium – The Belgian Bitcoin Association
After creating a Bitcoin meetup in Brussels, some members who were in attendance wanted to create something more than that, which resulted in the Belgian Bitcoin Association. Currently, there are a total of 18 members, and the treasury holds a budget of 2.5 Bitcoin.
This budget is comprised of membership signups, which is currently valued at EUR60 per year (for individuals – click here for full pricing information). The Belgian Bitcoin Association is a non-profit, and they have seen a growing media interest over the past year, which I can only applaud.
Bitcoin France Becomes The Bitcoin Foundation’s 10th Affiliate Chapter
European countries are slowly but surely showing their interest in Bitcoin and other digital currencies. In our previous article about mobile payments growth, European countries are moving away from cash transactions. France was not one of those countries, but they did join the Bitcoin Foundation yesterday.
When it comes to France and Bitcoin, we hardly hear any news from that region and the world. Even though Michel Spain, France’s Minister of Finance, noted his country prefers to take the “middle road” when it comes to regulating Bitcoin, that’s about all the news we’ve heard from them over the past few months.

Bitcoin Gains Foothold In Mexico, Bad Journalism Criticized
It is official; The Bitcoin Foundation added its latest affiliate chapter this week. The new Fundación Satoshi Nakamoto had officially gained accreditation in Mexico. The green light comes at a time when the Bitcoin Foundation is trying to get along with its International Affiliate Program. It began in December 2013 with the creation of the Bitcoin Association of Australia & Bitcoin Foundation Canada.
The International Affiliate Program was developed to create awareness about Bitcoin. Just like in so many countries, the word Bitcoin has had a negative ring in Mexico. This is mainly because of lobby groups and bad reports by journalists that haven’t researched thoroughly what Bitcoin is all about.
