There is a certain correlation between the world of digital currency and traditional finance, even though very few people will acknowledge this to be true. PayPal, while a direct competitor of Bitcoin, has also embraced the digital currency in the past through its BrainTree subsidiary. To make matters even more interesting, one of the most prominent Bitcoin entrepreneurs – Wences Casares – has taken up a board position at PayPal to help the company shape the future of money.

Visa Partners With Bitcoin Payment Processor Stripe

In order to take Bitcoin as a payment method to the next level, a lot of things will have to change and evolve in the coming years.  Stripe, one of the few Bitcoin payment processors that are known outside of the digital currency world, has raised more funding and partnered with Visa to take their business further than ever before.

PayPal Allows Merchants to Accept Bitcoin Through PayPal Payments Hub

Throughout the year, there have been lots of speculations and questions regarding the integration of Bitcoin in PayPal. Earlier this month, PayPal had already announced that businesses working with Braintree would soon be able to accept Bitcoin through their v.zero SDK and relationship with Coinbase.

In a recent press release, PayPal’s Senior Director of Strategy Scott Ellison announced some big news. As of September 23rd, PayPal is allowing merchants to accept Bitcoin using the PayPal Payments Hub. North American merchants will be able to integrate the option first.
It is uncertain if or when other merchants will be able to accept Bitcoin as well, for this is not mentioned in the press release.  Read more...

Paypal & Bitcoin – Why You Should Temper Your Expectations

The big news over the past day has been the fact that Paypal has finally greenlit the addition of Bitcoin payments to their platform. While that may sound extremely good at first glance, I do believe some excitement moderation is needed, as this might not be as big of a deal as some of us would expect.

Even though Paypal has partnered up with CoinBase to add Bitcoin support to their BrainTree SDK, nothing will change anytime soon. Having the possibility to accept Bitcoin payments through Paypal, or Paypal payments funded by Bitcoin, is great, don’t get me wrong. However, we are still months (if not a year) away from actually seeing this implemented.  Read more...
