Synching Data Between Bitcoin Nodes Is About to Get Easier

Minisketch is a new solution that’s trying to solve an old problem.

Spearheaded by Blockstream co-founder Pieter Wuille, Bitcoin Core contributor and fellow Blockstream co-founder Gregory Maxwell, and Blockstream software engineer Gleb Naumenko, the open-source initiative is designed to achieve set reconciliation between the mempools of each full node.

“Set reconciliation, in short, is the problem of trying to figure out what the differences are between two sets stored on different computers, while minimizing how much data needs to be exchanged between them. The Lightning Network continues to post steady growth.

According to data from 1ML, the network is now supported by roughly 4,070 nodes, which house just over 12,500 payment channels, an average of 10.91 channels per node (at time of publication). Lightning Network Passes 3000 Nodes, Capacity Approaches 100 BTC

The Lightning Network active on the Bitcoin mainnet has passed 3000 nodes with capacity for almost 100 BTC in August.

Capacity Expands 85% In July

Data from monitoring resource 1ml.com confirms that network capacity increased 85 percent in the past thirty days, bringing mainnet Lightning’s total funds accommodation to 97 BTC ($ 628,000).

Lightning originally debuted around the start of 2018 in its mainnet form, with growth accelerating through Q2.

In May, Twitter commentator Kevin Rooke notes, capacity remained comparatively low at just 18 BTC before a dramatic increase began in July.  Read more...

The Lightning Network has almost doubled the amount its capacity in two weeks this month as more and more users expand the protocol.

Data showing current activity on Lightning’s Bitcoin mainnet implementation reveals a network capacity of $ 148 million, up from $ 80 million April 10.

‘Unfairly Cheap’ Lightning Network Mainnet Hits 40 Nodes, 60 Channels

The Lightning Network now has over 40 nodes and 60 channels running as the long-awaited technology continues to take new strides.

Data reported on Reddit Thursday shows the propagation of Lightning nodes, which are just beginning to take foot after the so-called ‘layer two’ technology debuted on the Bitcoin mainnet.

CloakCoin PoSA Update Includes Two Major Changes

For our final article of the day, we have some more updates in regards to CloakCoin and their PoSA feature. A new client update has been released, and there are some important changes, so let’s take a look!

The first big change comes in the form of nodes relaying only announcements from the node itself to other nodes. Previously, nodes would relay any PoSA Availability Announcements broadcasted on the network.

As a result, the user view of the PoSA network only shows those PoSA nodes you are directly connected to (which are counted as peers). All other nodes will no longer be visible to you, in order to avoid confusion.  Read more...
