Bitcoin is a disruptive technology that has emerged as a fundamental component of the financial industry. My work at Bitcoin-friendly companies has allowed me to observe the many ways in which Bitcoin is transforming the industry. Looking to contribute more, I embarked on a Bitcoin-only journey and joined the non-profit project, Bitcoin Lake.
The controversial project has been met with equal parts excitement and criticism in regards to its impacts on Bitcoin.
A project called Ordinals has launched on the Bitcoin blockchain, effectively enabling Bitcoin-native on-chain NFTs.
Led by former Bitcoin Core contributor Casey Rodarmor, the protocol is a convention for numbering and transferring individual satoshis on the Bitcoin network.
Ord, a specific implementation of Ordinals, “is a wallet and explorer that allows tracking the location of specific satoshis and their ordinal numbers – assigned by the Ordinals protocol – as well viewing, creating, and transferring inscriptions, that is, individual satoshis inscribed with arbitrary content,” the press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine states.
The Bank of England (BoE) and UK Treasury are set to back the development of the British central bank digital currency (CBDC), popularly known as “Britcoin” or “digital pound.”
The discourse of a British CBDC began in April 2021, when the UK Treasury, then under the leadership of current UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, launched a joint task force with the BoE to evaluate the feasibility of a “digital pound” for British businesses and households.
Since then, there have been multiple discussions and reports as both financial authorities weighed the potential benefits and risks a “digital pound” could bring to the UK economy. After 21 months of research and consultations, it would appear both parties have eventually come to a decision.
In a piece of news that went undetected within the crypto community for a few days, the Southeastern European country of Montenegro has announced a partnership with Ripple. The country’s prime minister, Dr. Dritan Abazović tweeted about the pilot project with Ripple already on January 18, 2023.
Via the social media platform, the Montenegrin Prime Minister reported on his meeting with Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, and James Wallis, Ripple Vice President for Central Bank Engagement and CBDCs and said:

Let’s dive into what this program means, what it is all about, and why it could serve as a major point of institutional-level crypto adoption down the road.
Auto Titles On Chain: Why It Makes Sense
The grass is always greener, it seems. NFT projects on non-Ethereum chains aspire to see levels of liquidity achieved by top Ethereum-based projects, while Ethereum-based NFT collections see the ‘bigger fish in a smaller pond’ opportunity with leaner non-Ethereum chains. There are plenty more potential motivations for projects to move across chains – or grow beyond just one chain – and for the first time in recent months, this is action that we’re finally seeing come to life.
We saw a prime example of this in the final hours of 2022 when signature Solana-based projects DeGods and y00ts announced their move from Solana to Polygon.
Meta, the parent company of social media platform Facebook, continues to decline requests for comments after its plans for a massive workforce reduction set to be announced next week leaked and became the subject of conversations over the internet.
Instead of providing clear answers, a spokesperson for the company deferred queries to CEO mark Zuckerberg’s statement during its 3rd Quarter Earnings Call.
During that event, Zuckerberg said next year, his company will turn its focus on investing in “a number of high-priority growth areas.” The CEO also added:
Famous Japanese videogame developer Square Enix has revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) game, titled “Symbiogenesis.”
According to a press release, the new game from the company is going to be a “digital collectible art project.”
Square Enix is one of the most well-known names in the videogame industry, having released beloved hits like Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider.
For a few years now the Japanese developer has been showing interest in blockchain tech, and has slowly started making movements in the space during the past couple of years.
Opposite to the downtrends of crypto prices, web 3 developments continue to make headlines almost daily. Following the UAE’s initiative to make the Emirates a metaverse and web 3 technology centre, Japan officially enters the web 3 zone.
Fukuoka, the second-largest port city in Japan, has secured a partnership with the Astar Japan Lab to accelerate the adoption of web 3 technology. The development firm in the state is well-known for building use cases that rely on NFTs and blockchain. Soichiro Takashima, Mayor of Fukuoka, a city which is designated as a National Special Strategic Zone, and Astar Network founder Sota Watanabe, announced the collaboration in a “Myojo Waraku 2022” conference held on 13 October.
According to research company MarketsandMarkets, the metaverse market is expected to be valued at $ 427 billion by 2027.
This would mean a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 47% over the next five years from its current $ 62 billion market cap.
With that being said, it’s no wonder more and more companies are racing into developing and launching projects in the virtual domain and profit from it.
Telefonica, for example, is set to be one of the latest companies to make its own move in order to bring “metaversal” experience to its customers.
Popular NFT collection Doodles raised $ 54 million in a recent equity funding, per a report from Forbes. The funding round was led by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, a long-time Doodles holder, via his venture capital firm Seven Seven Six.
The report claims that the NFT project was supported by other major names in the crypto industry with backing from FTX Ventures, Acrew Capital, and 10T Holdings. Doodles were launched in 2021 as a limited 10,000 items-only collection that has managed to surpass $ 100 million in total value.
The Lightning accelerator, Wolf, will be based in Manhattan, New York and is exclusively non-remote. It will include mentorship, funding and work space.
On August 26, 2022, Ross Stevens, CEO of Stone Ridge Holdings Group and executive director of the New York Digital Investments Group (NYDIG) subsidiary, made an impromptu appearance at BitBlockBoom in Austin, Texas, for a special announcement.
Stevens has long been a proponent of Bitcoin through his Stone Ridge shareholder letter, his co-written article, “On Impossible Things Before Breakfast,” participation in the MicroStrategy corporate strategy program and interview with famous bitcoin proponent, Michael Saylor.
The low cap alt coin rallied after Energy Web appeared in a BlackRock press release.

An NFT plan has been made public by Square Enix, a Japanese entertainment corporation and video game developer. However, Minecraft, a computer game owned by Microsoft, banned non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from being used on its platform.
An NFT is a type of blockchain technology that essentially functions as a one-of-a-kind receipt connected to the blockchain for any digital asset, such as a video, illustration, or character model in a video game, etc. This receipt confirms the holder as the sole legitimate owner of the asset.
