One of the Bitcoin trends that hasn’t translated to altcoins too well just yet, is the formation of a Foundation. There are several coins with a Foundation in existence, such as BlackCoin, WhiteCoin and DigitalCoin to name a few. As of now, we can officially add Darkcoin to that list. Let’s see what the Darkcoin Foundation means for the community.
The Darkcoin Foundation will be admitting members as of right now, and the goal is to raise additional funds in the form of both donations and dues. This additional funds will then be used for promotion and both protection and standardization of Darkcoin.
It is important to note the Darkcoin Foundation does not own the DRK project, as that is still completely in the hands of the DRK community. The Darkcoin Foundation is here to help, as they believe organizing fundraising efforts will be beneficial to both the coin and the community. However, everyone is free to contribute in any way they find most convenient.
One of the main focus points for the Foundation is to support the further development of the Darkcoin protocol. It is important for the development team to have the necessary resources, so they can keep pushing forward with innovative features.
The DRK community has always been an integral part of the Darkcoin success story. A lot of members actively contribute to the Darkcoin project in their own way, which has not gone by unnoticed. The Foundation will assist community efforts whenever possible.
In order to bring more attention, and hopefully adoption, to Darkcoin, the public needs to be educated about this digital currency in a proper way. Educational and promotional efforts will be pursued, and DRK will be represented wherever deemed appropriate.
For those of you interested in becoming a member of the Darkcoin Foundation, you can either register as an individual or as an industry. Individual members can pay their dues annually, or even sign up as a lifetime member of the Foundation.
Industry membership is available to both individuals and entities, although there is no specific perk for either type of membership. There is one benefit though, as all Foundation members get to cast their vote when the elections of board members take place.
The cost of becoming a Darkcoin Foundation member is just 10 DRK, but you can donate additional funds if you feel the need to do so. Donations can also be sent by people who are not interesting in joining the Foundation itself.
The Foundation is an Arizona nonprofit corporation and future 501(c)(6) organization (they are in the process of applying for recognition of exemption). The board of directors will hold meetings periodically, No word yet on whether any meeting notules will be made available to the public, but we will keep an eye out for additional information.
Last but not least, all Darkcoin Foundation funds will be stored in multi-signature wallets, and all wallet addresses will be made public. None of the coins in these wallets will be anonymized, so anyone can see how funds is being spent.
