Our children are our future, and when it comes to Bitcoin, there is no better target audience than young people. In fact, it would be great if we could educate children on Bitcoin starting at the age of 7 or 8, when they are still full of imagination and wonder. Now that the first elementary/middle school in the United States is accepting Bitcoin donations, that idea might become a reality far sooner than we might expect.
Indian Mountain School, GoCoin and Bitcoin Shop
The unique partnership between Indian Mountain School (IMS), GoCoin (a well-known digital currency payment processor) and Bitcoin Shop, Inc (self-explanatory) enables this middle/elementary school to accept donations in the form of Bitcoin. Needless to say, most elementary/middle schools are always in need of extra funding, and if the traditional system fails to provide just that, you have to start considering other options at some point.
Indian Mountain School, located in Lakeville, Connecticut, is an independent coeducational boarding and day school for children in pre-kindergarten through grade nine. Thanks to their collaboration with GoCoin and Bitcoin Shop, both parents and other supporters can now financially aid IMS via a Bitcoin donation. In fact, IMS will be the first elementary/middle school in the United States to accept Bitcoin for school fundraising campaigns.
“Indian Mountain is taking a leap in the right direction in terms of being a leader of innovation and technology in the education system. We believe this opportunity will not only benefit parents but will broaden the horizon for the next generation and afford IMS students an understanding of new technologies that will no doubt impact their futures,” Charles Allen, CEO of Bitcoin Shop and IMS alumnus, told the media.
Contrary to what other news sites are claiming, IMS has added a separate section on their website to find out more information about making a digital currency donation. For those of you willing to make a contribution, call the number 1-860-435-0871, extension 155, which will put you through to Brenda Lynch, Director of Development at Indian Mountain School. All digital currency donations will be processed via GoCoin, and converted to fiat currency.
“Indian Mountain strives to develop innovative and creative thinkers, which is why we build STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning into every student’s experience. We encourage our students to take small risks within our safe and supportive environment and to learn and expand upon those trial-and-error experiments. It is gratifying to see IMS alumnus Charles Allen on the leading edge of a new industry. The fact that forward-thinking school supporters can give to the school through digital currency is an inventive way to bring this out-of-the-box idea home to our students,” commented IMS’s Head of School Mark A. Devey.
Digital Currency Donations With GoCoin
At this point in time, there is no official way to make a digital currency donation online. However, as all payments are handled through GoCoin, it is safe to assume that once you made a phone call to Brenda Lynch, you will receive an email with a payment link. Even though the official press release only mentions Bitcoin, the fact that the IMS website clearly mentions “Digital Currency” leaves the door open for Litecoin and Dogecoin donations as well (in the future?).
The main benefits of making a digital currency contribution include no exchange rates, no chargeback possibilities and no other fees associated with the payment itself. Furthermore, international students’ families will benefit from the advantages of Bitcoin donations compared to traditional payment methods. Last but not least, with digital currency donations being accepted as a payment method for Indian Mountain School’s fundraising campaigns, the future can only become brighter from here on out.
“The best way to understand digital currencies is to actively use them, and now both IMS, its students and their parents can all benefit from practical, hands-on experience with this new technology,” said Steve Beauregard, co-founder and CEO of GoCoin.
