Ever since we reported on the latest Viacoin client upgrade, which includes merged mining support, it seems like quite a fez multipools have enabled this option so far. Coinking.io, one of the biggest multipools in the world of cryptocurrency, is now merged-mining five different coins together with any Scrypt coin. VIA is just one of those, so let’s take a closer look!
Merged mining is an interesting addition to the world of mining digital currency, as it allows users to gain a handful of different coins while doing one and the same process. The best part about merged mining is the fact it does not require any changes to be made by the miner themselves,as the mining pools will take care of all the necessary coding;
Ever since merged mining was made possible by the Viacoin developers, CoinKing.io was the first multipool to jump on this opportunity. As a result, Viacoin can now be merged mined with any other Scrypt coin available. But VIA is not the only coin to be merged mined on CoinKing, as they also support SYS,DOGE, ULTC and PTC. That’s mining 6 coins at once when using their Scrypt multiport.
Other multipools are working on integrating Viacoin merged mining as well, according to VIA developer BTCDrak. Both IPOMiner and Multipool.us have expressed itnerested in adding VIA as a merged-mineable coiin, but no official statements have been made as of this writing. We will keep an eye on this situation to see if more multipools decide to add VIA to their offerings.
Overall, the Viacoin network hashrate has seen massive growth since Auxiliary Proof-of-Work has been enabled. Over the past few days, over 700GH/s of Scrypt mining power has been added to the network, which is now sitting comfortably at roughly 1Thash/second. This puts the Viacoin network hashrate almost on par with Litecoin and Dogecoin, which is pretty impressive if you ask me.
