Sunday is as good a day as any to take a closer look at some newly released altcoins. As the digital currency list grows longer and longer every week, it’s hard to come up with something new. Maybe WhistleCoin can bring us something we haven’t seen before? Let’s find out!
WhistleCoin follows the example of many altcoins before it, by working hard to deliver a privacy-centric digital currency. But there’s a slight twist, as WSTL is a coin for whistleblowers, privacy activists and freedom fighters. Not really sure why we would need a completely new coin for that, but let’s carry on before judging.
WhistleCoin is honoring the truth tellers sacrificing their (social) lives for the betterment of our society, by exposing injustices and lies. Think of Edward Snowden, but then more the unsung heroes and heroines who fight the same battles.
Even though alternative (digital) currency is only one step in the process of taking back our freedom, the privacy features offered are a bonus. Once we can combine alternative currency with a social change (by supporting whistleblowers and the likes) , the future could look quite different compared to how it looks now.
Opportunities and services will be pursued in order to make WhistleCoin a digital currency you can use in your everyday life. From the original announcement, we can gather digital payment and conversion services will be coming in the near future. Sounds interesting!
Future Development (Roadmap)
A new digital currency wouldn’t be interesting if there was no development roadmap of some sorts. WhistleCoin has a lot of developmental plans by the looks of it, including a proxy service and anonymous wallets for starters.
Later on , there will be a ‘WSTL to other currencies’ converter, which sounds like a CoinRecycler to me at this point. Whistle VPN has also been announced, which will be an actual VPN service available to the WhistleCoin community.
The more “mainstream” features, such as a decentralized marketplace, a multipool and encrypted messaging are also on the list. Encrypted email will be available too, together with a Twitter tipbot, Android Wallet and merchant apps.
None of these features has an estimated/official ETA at this point in time however, which makes me remain a bit wary of WhistleCoin at this point. Then again, they are not hyping empty promises either, so we will see how all of this turns out.
