Things have been relatively quiet in the Worldcoin community over the past few months. The Worldcoin Committee has been working hard to get things done, but their communication in regards to wallet development has been subpar. A new wallet has been released however, so let’s take a look at what has changed!
The Qt Libraries have been upgraded to version 5.3, and the single binary has been swapped out in favor of a set of dynamic libraries and a smaller executable. While there are no real benefits to this change for now, it will have major implications for future releases and additional features.
Gauss is a new feature which has been introduced in this Worldcoin client update. Gauss stands for General Availability Upgrade System Service, allowing users to simply and securely upgrade their WDC clients, and also eliminates wallet compatibility issues after an upgrade.
There are two ways to interact with Gauss. The first option is to use Gauss as a user-friendly wizard guiding users through the configuration of various parameters, like most Windows application installers.
The other option is upgrading your client directly from the notification icon in your wallet. Do keep in mind that most wallet updates will be optional, unless there is a critical issue that needs to be addressed and fixed as soon as possible.
Users can also opt to subscribe to certain types of upgrades, such as beta testing wallet releases or only final version releases. Giving the end user more options is never a bad thing, so kudos to the Worldcoin Committee for this implementation.
Gauss is the first plugin to be released which connects to Pulzar, a custom C++ application server. Pulzar will allow the developers to increase Worldcoin functionalty without touching or recompiling the code backbone, speeding up development significantly.
The Worldcoin community has requested for more WDC-related services, and the Worldcoin Committee has taken this feedback to heart. Over the next few months, more services will be rolled out. We will keep an eye out for additional information once it becomes available.
