A new crypto currency has been released today, called “AIDEN”. Most interesting is the new type of Scrypt algorithm used to mine this coin.
We have had Scrypt, Scrypt-N, Scrypt-Jane so far, which are all decent algorithms. Today however, Scrypt-OG was added to that list.
Scrypt-OG is kind of like Scrypt-N, except that the N-factor doesn’t change, it will always remain 6. This has some benefits for the miners.
For starters, your GPU will run cooler, and it also reduces the “stress” on your GPU’s memory when mining AIDEN.
Secondly, you can easily squeeze a few megahashes out of your GPU, without overclocking it. I’m currently running at 6.5 mhash/s per card, and that’s underclocked.
Third, it’s a new algorithm, which will get quite a few people excited, including myself. I like to try new things and see how it goes. So far, so good!
It was a bit of work in order to start mining AIDEN. Not because of any issues with the coin’s release or anything, but more with getting the correct SGminer.
Yes, mining AIDEN requires a non-standard mining program. YacMiner seems to work, according to several reports, or you can grab SGMiner version 4.1.153, which has flashy green text, instead of that dull and boring white text.
As far as mining pools go for AIDEN, I would advise users to either try the Suprnova pool, or just use the P2Pool. Payouts have been streaming in without issues all day for everyone on P2Pool.
Before I let you go, here are some technical specs about AIDEN :
84 Million coins
Block reward halves every 840k blocks
30 Second block target
NGW (with the timewarp fix)
No pre-mine or IPO!
