A new type of cryptocurrency has been released today, called MjollnnirCoin. Unfortunately, there are multiple issues with this coin already since its release, so I wouldn’t bother wasting your time on it.
First of all, I’ll give you the specs of MjollnirCoin, so we can get those out of the way :

While all of the above sounds great, and I personally would love to test the Hefty1 algorithm, it isn’t working if you are a Windows user. Even though there is a specific cgminer release for this coin, it crashes when you start running it.
That, unfortunately, isn’t my biggest issue, albeit is is very fudging annoying. What really ticks me off, is the developer’s attitude towards this problem, and I quote : “Anyway, in Linux it works just fine, and the source is on github.”
This shows a complete lack of care for the mining community, even though I do know that most of us should mine on Linux anyway, but very few of us actually do so. If you can’t be bothered to make a miner for all platforms, then don’t release your coin.
What makes it even worse, is the fact that MjollnirCoin had an IPO, and collected 2.346 Bitcoin in funds. I guess now that the funds are collected, we can all just do it ourselves, as apparently we shouldn’t expect any help from the developer himself.
Another fine example of how not to release a new cryptocurrency, if you ask me.
So for once windows users have issues and are in the same position as most mac/linux users are for 90% of coins? Sorry about that but couldn’t help it -have run into this uncaring attitude in the past when I was trying to mine on my mac! I’ve just downloaded the modified version of cgminer on my dual 280X windows 8.1 setup and it’s happily mining away so might be an issue with your particular setup. Where did you download cgminer and what setup/pool are you using? I’m using 1GH pool and their recommended settings if that is any help. Don’t dismiss the coin just because the developer isn’t a windows user!
Forgot to add – I can give you a link to download the cgminer I’m using from my dropbox if you like.
This was an articlef rom yesterday, when it wasn’t working, before the relaunch, and the dev really didn’t seem to care.
I’m currently working on an article to report the relaunch was successful, and mining on Windows works 🙂
But thanks for the offer 😉
No probs – been catching up on reading. Glad it’s working now:)
