It is official; The Bitcoin Foundation added its latest affiliate chapter this week. The new Fundación Satoshi Nakamoto had officially gained accreditation in Mexico. The green light comes at a time when the Bitcoin Foundation is trying to get along with its International Affiliate Program. It began in December 2013 with the creation of the Bitcoin Association of Australia & Bitcoin Foundation Canada.
The International Affiliate Program was developed to create awareness about Bitcoin. Just like in so many countries, the word Bitcoin has had a negative ring in Mexico. This is mainly because of lobby groups and bad reports by journalists that haven’t researched thoroughly what Bitcoin is all about.
By creating a platform in Mexico to explain what Bitcoin is, this will hopefully reduce the subjective reporting. If the subjective reporting is reduced, it will be a benefit the consumers, media outlets and Bitcoin community.
Lucia Cangas, who is the marketing and communications director for Fundación Satoshi Nakamoto had the following to say: “We want to work with the Mexican government and financial institutions to educate every Mexican about Bitcoin. That starts by getting objective information to the right media sources so that the wild and heavily biased reports are being stopped.”
