I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, but there is no such thing as a boring day in the world of cryptocurrency. Two days ago, we were introduced to a new coin called ShibeCoin. How about we figure out what it’s all about?
You may have heard the term “Shibe” before, usually in reference to the average DogeCoin conversation. Judging by the original announcement thread on BitcoinTalk, it also has the same amount of information on release day, nearly nothing.
But all the information be make us shibes mining ShibeCoin is there though! ShibeCoin clients are available for Windows, Mac OS X & Linux, we have plenty of mining pools to choose from, and the ShibeCoin wallet looks pretty neat!
ShibeCoin is a Proof-of-Work/Proof-of-Stake Scrypt hybrid cryptocurrency, with a 300,000,000 SHIBE supply cap. Blocks are generated every 60 seconds, and the block rewards start at 125,000 SHIBE, reducing to 25,000 per block over time. Difficulty re-targeting occurs through DigiShield.
The Proof-of-Work stage of ShibeCoin only lasts five days, so if you want to mine some, you’ll have to act fast. Once the Proof-of-Stake stage starts, SHIBE owners will receive 10% stake per year, assuming their coins have a minimum stake age of 8 days.
ShibeCoin also has a 0.5% pre-mine, which will be used for bounties. A logo design contest is currently taking place, and once 150 users (or more) are in the #shibecoin IRC channel, 50k SHIBE will be distributed to the IRC users.
You can also trade ShibeCoin on BitTrex and CryptoAltEx already. Rumour has it Poloniex might be adding ShibeCoin very soon, but we cannot confirm this as of this writing. It wouldn’t surprise me though.
