When it comes to getting Bitcoin in the hands of mainstream consumers, we have to come up with ways to make them think of digital currency as an alternative payment method. At this point, most people still see Bitcoin as “magic internet money you can’t use anywhere else”, even though there are plenty of everyday use cases. But, sometimes it is not so obvious, which is why we will give you a few tips.
Snoop Dogg’s News Album For Bitcoin….Or Not?
Every time a major star spreads the word about Bitcoin, a general buzz is sent through the digital currency community. Snoop Dogg, a world-renowned musician and producer, tweeted about how his new album would be made available in Bitcoin and be delivered in a drone. Do keep in mind this tweet took place in December of 2013 before drones started becoming popular in terms of consumer adoption.
Fast forward until recently, when Snoop Dogg’s new album got released, and you may have noticed there is no option to buy the album in Bitcoin. Not on the official website, not on a dedicated page, nowhere. And, to be perfectly honest, accepting Bitcoin payments has never been as easy and user-friendly as it is these days. So, what gives?
Did Snoop Dogg send out that tweet in December of 2013 just to hype his new upcoming album, or did he legitimately intend to offer it for sale in exchange for Bitcoin? And, if it was the latter, why hasn’t he done so? Luckily for Bitcoin enthusiasts – and Snoop Dogg as well – the Bitcoin community has a way to route around certain problems.
Even though you can not “officially” purchase Snoop Dogg’s album with Bitcoins – as far as we know at the time of publication – there are several online stores where you can pay with Bitcoin. One of those examples is Overstock.com, one of the largest online e commerce sites, which started accepting BTC payments in 2014.
However, Overstock.com does not sell the album in digital format, as they only have physical copies for sale. However, when you visit the product page for Snoop Dogg’s new album “Bush”, you will see it is not that overly expensive to get a physical copy. Customers will end up paying roughly US$16 – including shipping – when purchasing from Overstock.com
If you prefer to use Amazon.com for your purchases, make sure to check out the Purse.io platform. Doing so will let you buy anything on Amazon with Bitcoin, and you will usually end up with a discount of upto 25% to boot. Make sure to place Snoop Dogg’s Bush album in your wishlist on Purse.io and send over some BTC to the escrow address. As soon as someone fulfills your wishlist order, the funds have to be released to the buyer.
Music Marketplaces & Online Streaming Services with Bitcoin?
In this day and age, many enthusiasts would expect music albums to be made available for Bitcoin on various marketplaces and platforms. While we all know that Apple will not allow Bitcoin payments any time soon – nor will Google, mind you – platforms such as Bandcamp could see a big impact from accepting digital currency payments.
And what about Murfie, the only music marketplace and streaming platform that actually accepts Bitcoin payments? Through a workaround, you can buy a physical copy of Snoop Dogg’s new album, after exchanging Bitcoin to Murfie credits. In the end, you will pay roughly US$14 , including shipping.
Note from the Author: Purchasing “Bush” on Murfie will also grant you access to the digital download and streaming version of this album.
