The increasingly popular digital currency Bitcoin is increasing its awareness thanks to being accepted as a payment method for more and more charities. ChildFund has recently been added to the illuster list of charities accepting Bitcoin, as they started accepting cryptocurrency donations in December of 2014.
ChildFund : Brief Introduction
ChildFund International is a non-profit organization supporting those in need for over 75 years now. This charitable organization offers a platform through which people can support health care, education, job training and perhaps most importantly, individual development of young people between the age of 1 and 24.
Over the past six months, we have seen multiple major charities accepting Bitcoin as a payment method for donations. ChildFund International is one of the biggest names in the world of non-profit charitable organizations, and having them on board by accepting Bitcoin donations is another feather in the cap for the disruptive digital currency.
Thanks to the involvement of BitPay, people from all over the world can support young people in need by sending a donation in Bitcoin. ChildFund International is aware that Bitcoin integration will not make an immediate impact on the overall donation amount, but they acknowledge now is an opportune time to start accepting cryptocurrency donations.
“2014 has been a watershed year for bitcoin’s charitable uses. As this year closes and a new year begins, we hope that bitcoin users donate to ChildFund International and other groups making a global impact,” Elizabeth Ploshay, Account Manager at BitPay, told the world. Bitcoin brings a lot of positives to the table, and as the currency is accepted by more and more major charities, it will hopefully lead to a bigger global awareness.
Lower Transaction Fees Benefit All Parties
One of the major interesting aspects of Bitcoin is how transactions fees are neglectable compared to traditional payment methods. On top of that, sending a Bitcoin transactions is very easy, without too much technical knowledge required. As a result, more children in need have had the chance to get a decent meal, as well as a little extra for Christmas.
Even though the children themselves might not wonder how the money was collected, or who it even came from, the smile we can put on their faces says more than a 1,000 words. And that is what this is all about : Bitcoin can make things happen by coexisting next to traditional payment methods, which will benefit everyone involved.
No official numbers in regards to Bitcoin donations have been released by ChildFund at this point in time, but we will do our best to get a hold of one of their representatives and conduct a small written interview.
