If you read our previous DigitalCoin article, which you can find here, you may remember the DigitalCoin Foundation would take over development of DGC. Two days ago, they posted the upcoming changes, so let’s take a look!
Some massive changes are coming to DigitalCoin. First of all, the DigitalCoin Foundation will remove the Scrypt-only mining algorithm in favor of a multi-algorithm solution. From what we know at this point in time, the supporter mining algorithms will be Scrypt, SHA-256 and X11. More importantly, the rate of daily produced DGC will drop by 66%!
One of the major concerns about pretty much any cryptocurrency out there, is the way data is stored in the blockchain. This will result in additional layers of “protocol” on top of the existing blockchain. More details are being worked out as we speak, and if all goes well, users should be able to store up to 1 KB of data in a transaction. For a slightly more detailed explanation on how data storing works on a blockchain, click here.
There will also be a revamp of the PrivKey/Wallet import and export feature in the DigitalCoin client. No further details were announced at this point though, but we will keep an eye out for any additional information,
It is important to note all of these announced changes will require a hard fork, and a mandatory client update will be released within the next few weeks.
