2014 Has proven to be a very interesting year for cryptocurrency in general. Not only have we seen major advances being made in regards to Bitcoin adoption and awareness, but several altcoins have been making headlines as well. Dogecoin, the immensely popular altcoin, has seen great success by pursuing sports as a marketing strategy, in the form of the Jamaican Bobsled team, Dogecar with Josh Wise, and other events. But what will the plan be for 2015? Let’s put some thoughts together!
Dogecoin is on everybody’s radar ever since its inception. Not just because of the very cute logo, (such wow, very doge, much cuddle) but also because their community is very approachable and friendly towards both cryptocurrency veterans and novices alike. And truth be told, they have some of the craziest ideas which , for the most part, seem to turn out perfectly fine.
Who would have ever anticipated watching a Nascar race where all of a sudden you would see a driver making a pit stop, and as you look closer at his car, you see a massive Dogecoin logo? Well, that happened in 2014, several times to be precise. Josh Wise is a name etched in people’s memory for a long time to come, especially now that the Dogecar is included in Nascar ‘14’s official DLC pack.
Perhaps the greatest feat for Dogecoin in 2014 was their invaluable aid in getting the Jamaican Bobsled team to the Sochi Winter Olympics. Even though the Jamaicans qualified to attend the Winter Olympics there was not enough funds to make the trip. Word reached the Dogecoin community, who promptly raised more than enough funds to cover all of the expenses. Someone kissed that lucky egg, I hope!
So how can they trump all of these feats in 2015? Will they keep on pursuing sports events in order to get the name out there, or are there other ideas being worked on as we speak? When it comes to Dogecoin, one thing can be said : expect the unexpected, and when it happens, make sure you don’t miss it. as it will be a part of cryptocurrency history.
Even though today is only the first day of 2015, interesting projects are already being discussed on the DOGE subreddit. Dogecoin gilding by using the DogeTipBit is one of the latest features to be added to the DOGE tipbot on Reddit. For those of you who don’t know what gilding is (I didn’t know this either), allow me to briefly explain what it means.
Gilding allows Reddit users to tip other users in Reddit Gold, which is Reddit’s premium membership program. Owning Reddit Gold entitles users to certain benefits, including the highlighting of new comments and turning off advertisements on Reddit, as well as being eligible for certain discounts and special offers presented by Reddit partners. How about a US$60 discount on a mattress from Casper, or US$ off your first ride when using Lyft? For a full list of partners and deals, click here.
When gilding Reddit users through DogeTipBit, those users will see the gilding was done by someone from the Dogecoin community, which will in turn create even more awareness for DOGE. This is an insanely genius marketing stunt by user Mohland, and it will be interesting to see how many will start using this feature over the next few months. And who knows, maybe someone will gild a Reddit user who posts this article on Reddit!
Note from the author : In order to avoid confusing, DogeTipBot is giving Reddit users actual Reddit Gold, and not an amount of Dogecoin so they can purchase Reddit Gold themselves.
