We have seen several smaller partnerships between Bitcoin and universities in the United States over the past few months. Georgia Institute of Technology will be the first university integrating Bitcoin payments into its stadium concession sales , as well as student dining and shopping credit system. All of this is made possible thanks to BitPay, the global leader in Bitcoin payment acceptance.
In the student section of Bobby Dodd Stadium, students will soon find Bitcoin point-of-sale devices. The Barnes & Noble store located in Tech Square will house a Bitcoin-enabled point purchase terminal for student credit BuzzCards. In short, students using Bitcoin can pay for food and goods at almost any location on the Tech campus.
Georgia Tech is still one of the most prestigious public university of the United States, and is well known for its research contributions. Not to mention the list of notable graduates to the field of applied technology over the years. Technological progress is still the university’s main goal, and adopting BItcoin is the latest step in that process. It is worth noting IMG, the university’s multimedia rights partner, brokered the deal.
The BuzzCard can be viewed as the one-stop solution to everyday campus life at Georgia Tech. Want to purchase snacks and drinks at Bobby Dodd Stadium with your Bitcoins? No problem! Yellow Jackets fans will be pleased to hear they can enjoy the benefits of the world’s fastest payment method at their favorite place.
But the good news for Yellow Jackets fans doesn’t end there, as a “Jacketwallet” for Georgia Tech was announced by Bitcoin wallet provider Pheeva was announced as well. Student life and digital currency can easily go hand-in-hand, thanks to these innovative deals and technological breakthroughs.
“We look forward to working with BitPay to make bitcoin a viable payment option for our students and fans. At Georgia Tech, we are always looking to lead in innovative ways, and this partnership with BitPay gives us an opportunity to do so by integrating this new technology at a sports venue and in the daily lives of our students.”
Mike Bobinski , Georgia Tech AD.
BitPay announced a breakthrough deal with Georgia Tech Athletic Association in July of this year. Bitcoin awareness will be built by displaying BitPay’s logo along with the Bitcoin symbol in Bobby Dodd Stadium and the McCamish Pavilion throughout the entire 2014-2015 school year.
“Georgia Tech is one of the best sources of innovation in the country. BitPay is proud to offer its own innovative bitcoin payment processing to the university and its students.”
