There is a mandatory Singularity client upgrade, which was released overnight by the developers. This upgrade will bring a hard fork , and all users have a few days in order to upgrade their client. Let’s take a look!
There are five major changes coming in this mandatory Singularity client update, which we will all take a look at in turn. Download links for the new client can be found below this article. An updated MAC client was not available yet as of this writing.
In order to improve the difficulty retargeting per block, DigiShield will be implemented into Singularity; As DigiShield retargets difficulty depending on the network hash rate, this change should improve the overall experience. This change is coming at block 1,500.
The block time, which dictates how long it takes for a block to be generated on the network, will be reduced at block 1,500 as well. Whereas the current block time is 3.5 minutes, the block time will be lowered to 3 minutes.
Some Linux users experienced compilation issues and errors. These problems have taken care of in this mandatory update as well, but we have not received any specific details on what has changed exactly.
Singularity MegaBlocks are being introduced, which will occur every 2,000 blocks. One Singularity MegaBlock will be worth 1,000 SING. Imagine hitting one of those bad boys when solo mining, or having a very low share round on a pool. Cha-ching!
Last but not least, the Singularity client update also brings us some eye candy, as new icons and a new logo have been introduced. Even though technical prowess is more important, it doesn’t hurt to be pleasing on the eye.
