It looks like we have a new trend on the Poloniex exchange, called Marking. As with other platforms, Marking is a form of reputation system and tipping option. Every time a user gets Marked, they gain 0.001 BitMark and a bit of reputation. Let’s find out more , shall we?
Users can be Marked for saying something useful, funny, interesting or for any other reason you can think of. I got Marked for just saying “there seems to be a lot of Marking going on here” in the Poloniex chatbox. Most peculiar, but also very interesting!
In order to start Marking, users have to enable the option when they log in to the Poloniex exchange, or by visiting this page. You will see a clickable button labelled “Enable Marking”at the bottom of the page, just click it and you are ready to Mark/be Marked!
In order to Mark other users, you have to enter the following command in Poloniex’s chatbox :
/mark <username> <amount> [reason]
The reason for Marking a user is completely optional, but reasons given will be displayed to other users and recorder in Poloniex’s marking ledger. Every Mark received is worth 0.001 BitMark, and reputation points will adjust thanks to a custom algorithm.
“The algorithm provides a greater reputation score to users who have been marked by a variety of other users. In other words, a user who receives 10 marks each from 10 different users will have a greater reputation score than a user who receives 100 marks from a single user. “
Checking your own or someone else’s reputation can be done through the following command:
/rep <username>
There are a few things to take into consideration when Marking people :
-
Markings can not be reserved, so keep an eye on your balances at all times
-
Users without 2FA enabled can mark once per minute for a maximum of 50 marks at any given time
-
Users with 2FA enabled can mark once every 10 seconds for a maximum of 1,000 marks at any given time
