One of the more recently released Cryptos that is getting a lot of attention from Crypto enthusiasts is SaffronCoin. They also published an official Press Release about a week ago, which got picked up by Reuters. Let’s take a look!
SaffronCoin aims to be one of the next-generation cryptocurrencies, with the goal of improving where Bitcoin and Litecoin left off. The developers have done so by implementing some very nice and exciting technical features, and increasing users’ security.
When you download the latest SaffronCoin wallet, which can be found here, you will see a lot of built-in features. A tweet box , information from Crypto exchanges, as well as a built-in IRC chat client are at your fingertips from the get go.
We found an interesting quote from the SaffronCoin development team about the implementation of all these features : “A wallet should not be just your coin balance. It should be an easy to use interface to interact with the coin in every possible way.” – SaffronCoin Dev Team
SaffronCoin is a multi-algorithm Crypto, which makes their network more secure compared to other coins. Mining can be done through either SHA-256D, Scrypt, Groestl, X11 and Blake. A little bit of everything for everyone.
I should point out that, when SaffronCoin launched, Blake and X11 algorithms were not supported yet. Both of these algos were added after a hard fork, which occurred 1 month after the release of SaffronCoin.
It is not unlikely that we will see more algorithms being added to SaffronCoin over time. This coin is very flexible in that regards, thanks to the hard work by the developers. The addition of Blake mining allows for merged mining in the future already.
With a coin supply of only 111 million SFR, SaffronCoin is a pretty limited coin. Keeping in mind the first 90 million SFR can be mined over 20 (!!) years, and the fact there will be no inflation, SaffronCoin opens up a lot of mining and investment possibilities.
As it stands right now, there are only roughly 10 million SFR in circulation. Because of the low mining difficulty, miners still have a very good chance to hop on the train, and mine some SFR. An interesting , and potentially lucrative approach.
Future plans for SaffronCoin include a merchant system, which is currently being developed. This system will be integrated with the developers’ own network of websites and portfolio of their client-owned ecommerce sites.
But that’s not all, as SaffronCoin’s future also holds a SFR/fiat/other cryptocurrencies exchange. On top of that, we will also see physical ATM’s. An encrypted real-time messaging & chat system is also in the works. Very exciting stuff to say the least!
You can buy, sell and trade SaffronCoin at the following exchanges : BitTrex, Comkort and RockyTrade. You can vote for SFR on Swisscex, MintPal, Cryptsy and Allcoin. For more information about the voting process, click here.

I looked into SaffronCoin as I’m a fan of the multi-algo approach of securing a blockchain. I found obvious redflags in their "White Paper" which was later removed from their website, including a proposed 2nd pre-mine. For me the most obvious redflag was cutting the inflation by 67% which the dev attributed to an inflation glitch but to me reads as not striving for fair distribution in an effort to take a shortcut to reward early adopters.
Do your due diligence with this one if you’re looking for something more than another pump ‘n dump coin which is what the chart for SFR looks like to me.
