Qtum Completes First Atomic Swap With Bitcoin on Mainnet
Qtum, a blockchain platform that merges the strength of Bitcoin’s blockchain with the Ethereum Virtual Machine to build decentralized applications, has completed its first atomic swap with Bitcoin on mainnet.
This is a big, first step for atomic swaps, a feature that allows for on-chain exchanges, or transactions, between cryptocurrencies on two separate blockchains without the need to rely on a third party. Bakkt Completes First Round of Funding With $182.5 Million
Intercontinental Exchange’s upcoming cryptocurrency trading platform, Bakkt, has raised $ 182.5 million from a dozen investors. The funds will help develop an institutional-grade regulated crypto exchange, clearing and warehousing services for physical delivery and storage. The company now expects to provide an updated timeline on launching bitcoin daily futures contracts in early 2019.

Trading Platform Paxful Completes Construction for Second School in Rwanda
Children in the Rwandan village of Kasebigege are being given a greater chance to pursue a sound education as construction on a new school, developed by bitcoin marketplace Paxful, has been completed.
Located in the Bugesera District, the school is a primary institution designed for children between the ages of 6 and 15. It’s Paxful’s second Philanthropic endeavor in the village, and construction was finished roughly one year after the company built a nursery education center in December 2017.
In an interview with Bitcoin Magazine, Ray Youssef — CEO and co-founder of Paxful — says it has always been one of his dreams to build schools for underprivileged children.

Switzerland’s “Crypto Valley” Successfully Completes Blockchain Voting Trial
Zug, a city in Switzerland’s Crypto Valley, completed its first blockchain-based municipal vote on July 2, 2018, the Swiss News Agency reports. Hailed as a “success” by local officials, the vote was held using a trial digital ID system announced in June of this year. City authorities, who have issued digital identities to residents since 2017, are currently evaluating different applications of blockchain technology for governance.
The votes, which were placed through a mobile app, allowed residents with digital IDs to provide feedback on matters such as the inclusion “of fireworks at the annual Lakeside Festival, and whether they think digital IDs should be used to borrow books from the library or pay parking fees.”
