Controversial cryptocurrency payment provider BitPay appeared to back Bitcoin over altcoins this week as its CCO told mainstream media the ICO token market was “in a lot of trouble.”
Speaking to Bloomberg in an interview that also featured regular commentator Joe Weisenthal, Sonny Singh focused heavily on Bitcoin as the cryptoasset, which had a chance of upside while remaining silent on major altcoins such as Ether (ETH) 00.
“It’s hard to say [if this is the bottom],” he said about the current state of the market.

Goldman Sachs has had its feelers in the cryptocurrency waters for a while. Now, the Wall Street giant looks set to take the plunge, having just hired a cryptocurrency trader to help the company expand into digital asset markets.
With Bitcoin looking rather bullish once more, Goldman Sachs is getting serious about cryptocurrency.
Goldman Sachs has hired former trader Justin Schmidt to head the multinational investment bank’s and financial services company’s digital asset markets in Goldman’s securities division, as reported by Tearsheet.
Coinbase has stated its commitment to introduce SegWit compatibility in “a few weeks,” fulfilling a promise made to customers in late 2017.
In a tweet Monday, the largest US exchange and wallet provider repeated claims made late last year that SegWit – as a “feature” – was less of a priority for developers than security and performance.
“Our engineering team has begun the final testing phase of SegWit for Bitcoin on Coinbase. SegWit compatible Bitcoin sends/receives will be available for customers in the next few weeks,” staff wrote, linking to the original announcement from December.
