Blockchain For Traceability: Thailand’s Biggest Food Exporter Uses Tech To Monitor Goods

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company (CP Foods) of Thailand, the country’s biggest food exporter, is set to integrate blockchain technology into its operations, expanding to shrimps and other products to guarantee freshness and quality. 

For CP Foods the priority has always been to ensure that all products are guaranteed safe and of high quality for consumers.

The company said it is important to adapt to advanced tech by enabling blockchain traceability for accurate monitoring of products and supply chains.

The company has already begun its blockchain integration with its pork and fresh chicken products.  Read more...

In Fourth Report, QuadrigaCX Court Monitor Recommends Bankruptcy Proceedings

QuadrigaCX monitor Ernst & Young suspects that the beleaguered exchange’s late CEO, Gerald Cotten, may have been financing personal expenditures with company funds, and it is now recommending that the assets in Cotten’s estate be placed under a preservation order.

In January, the exchange announced that it was insolvent, owing clients roughly $ 250 million CAD, after Cotten died of septic shock while honeymooning with his wife, Jennifer Robertson, in Jaipur, India. Since Cotten’s death, the exchange filed for creditor protections in the Nova Scotia court system and the court has appointed a dual counsel in Miller Thompson and Cox & Palmer to represent clients who lost money to the exchange.  Read more...

Malta Appoints Cybersecurity Firm Ciphertrace to Monitor Crypto Transactions

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) has appointed U.S. cybersecurity company Ciphertrace to help with compliance monitoring of crypto assets. Ciphertrace will be expected to keep track of transactions that pass through local crypto exchanges and digital wallets including ICOs, screening for potential money laundering and terrorism financing violations.

Detecting Illicit Financial Flows

The MFSA is currently sifting through applications from 29 cryptocurrency businesses that are seeking approval to operate as what are known as virtual financial agents (VFAs), the Times of Malta reported on March 11. Once the VFAs have been licensed, understood to be by the end of the month, businesses are expected to submit further applications to operate cryptocurrency exchanges, wallets and initial coin offerings.  Read more...

First QuadrigaCX Monitor Report: $460k in BTC “Inadvertently” Sent to Cold Wallet

According to the latest court documents in the ongoing QuadrigaCX case, the exchange sent roughly $ 470,000 CAD (approximately $ 355, 000 USD) worth of bitcoin from a hot wallet to a cold-storage wallet on February 6, 2019.

G20 Watchdog Unveils Framework to Monitor Crypto

A framework has been developed for the G20 countries to “monitor the financial stability implications of crypto-assets markets.” The Financial Stability Board says cryptocurrencies “do not pose a material risk to global financial stability” but supports their “vigilant monitoring.”
