Binance Freezes Funds on Multiple Accounts with Dubious Crypto Exchange

Binance has frozen multiple accounts associated with the cryptocurrency exchange Wex, citing money laundering concerns.

The CEO of Binance went on Twitter recently to announce the freezing of multiple accounts owned by Wex, claiming that Binance will cooperate with law enforcement in any way possible should a criminal investigation result from alleged money laundering.

Wex, a Russian-based cryptocurrency exchange, has had a troubled history, to put it mildly. Going formally under the name of btc-e, it drew community unrest when its alleged operator, Alexander Vinnick, was arrested. Critical Bug Found in Bitcoin Core Invokes the Multiple Client Argument

Over the last 24 hours, the cryptocurrency community has been discussing a critical vulnerability that was found in the Bitcoin Core (BTC) reference client. A bug introduced in Bitcoin Core version 0.14, that also affects all subsequent versions, could have caused a great majority of current Core nodes to crash. According to the developer’s Optech newsletter, Core contributors released a patch that fixes Core version 0.16.2 and the latest 0.16.3 fix requires an immediate upgrade.

Multiple Companies Testing Out Cryptocurrency From Messaging App Kik

Messaging service Kik unveiled their own cryptocurrency last year, partially as a way to set it apart from the competition. A growing number of companies are now trying out Kik’s ‘Kin’ virtual currency and associated application for their own usage.

Kik, well-known for their popular ad-free messaging service, had a highly successful $ 100 million ICO last year.

The company’s Kin token is designed to help users get rewards for finishing activities like surveys and quizzes and for watching interactive videos. Kik has teamed up with Blackhawk Network to also let users trade in rewards for gift cards from places like Dominos, Nike, and Sephora.  Read more...

Localbitcoins Disables Multiple Accounts as EU Regulation Looms

Popular p2p Bitcoin trading platform Localbitcoins has announced users will only be able to hold one account from May 26 as new EU privacy laws come into place.

P2P: Regulatory Net Tightens

As part of its adherence to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a new data privacy push from Brussels, the platform will also change how it handles trade disputes and identification requirements among other aspects of its operations.

The move comes around one month after a previous announcement over obligatory identification caused controversy among Localbitcoins traders.

Japanese exchange Bitflyer is on a hiring spree, trying to tap talent from Wall Street. The company says coders can make $ 100,000, and plenty of employees earn $ 200,000. Besides already operating in three regions, the exchange is expanding into additional countries and adding more services.

Number One Goal

Japan’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, Bitflyer, is on a hiring spree. The company is eyeing traders and bankers from Wall Street, including from its CEO’s former employer, Goldman Sachs, according to Bloomberg. With over 2 million users on its platform, the number of Bitflyer employees “has doubled to more than 150 people in the past six months and is on pace to top 300 before year-end,” the news outlet detailed.  Read more...

CEO Bill Barhydt revealed the latest feature on Twitter today, in what he described as an “industry first for a non-custodial wallet.”
