Cardano Testnet “Catastrophically” Broken? Hoskinson Replies
There has been a lot of controversy in the Cardano community as the network approaches a major milestone. This blockchain has been preparing to deploy an update via a Hard Fork Combinator (HFC) event called “Vasil”, but there has been some disagreement between the community and the lead developer, Input Output Global (IOG).
“Vasil” will introduce network performance on Cardano that is set to improve its ecosystem and potentially expand its decentralized finance (DeFi) sector. However, the HFC event has been pushed back on several occasions causing frustration in some sectors of the community.
Breaking: Facebook Releases Libra Cryptocurrency Whitepaper and Testnet
By CCN Markets: Facebook has revealed the white paper for its much-hyped cryptocurrency, “Libra.” After months of speculation, Facebook has outlined the vision for its crypto project and released the test-net for its blockchain. “Libra’s mission is to enable a simple global currency and financial infrastructure that empowers billions of people.” Facebook’s cryptocurrency will operate through its Messenger app and WhatsApp to power peer-to-peer transfers and retail payments. Facebook claims the Libra cryptocurrency is built on a secure, scalable and reliable blockchain, backed by a reserve of real assets. The ecosystem will be governed by the Libra Association, a consortium
Out of Testnet and Into Alpha: Lightning Labs’ Desktop Application Is Live
Lightning Labs just released an alpha version of its Lightning Network wallet. The desktop application is now compatible with Bitcoin’s mainnet and it leverages Neutrino (the protocol, not the analytics company acquired by Coinbase) to give users a lightweight option to “control their own funds,” as opposed to running a full node or trusting a third party to play custodian.
“This release required a diverse skill set of protocol engineering, product development and design thinking,” Tankred Hase, a Lightning Labs application developer, told Bitcoin Magazine. “I’m lucky enough to work with such a talented team at Lightning Labs where we can bring all those perspectives together. I’m hoping this release makes Bitcoin and Lightning more accessible to new types of users.”

Ethereum Testnet Issues Now Fixed
Within hours of a bug that split Ethereum’s testnet being found, the problem was fixed and as was predicted, the glitch was related with the new Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) which adds efficiency gains to calculations with only Parity to apparently be affected.
A Rust developer called, Wei Tang said:
“The bug has been fixed. It affects parity and aleth, which we had the same bug,” with aleth being a C++ eth client. He continued to say, “I fixed the SSTORE refund saturating sub bug and confirmed that it indeed computed the same state root as geth. I guess when Afri wakes up, we’ll try to get a patch release really soon which should fix the current consensus issue on Ropsten.”
3 Key Takeaways From Ethereum’s Problematic Constantinople Testnet Upgrade
Most Ethereum enthusiasts will have noticed the activation of the Constantinople hard fork on the testnet hasn’t gone off without a hitch. Major issues occurred when the Ropsten testnet stalled. Although all issues have been resolved ever since, the following three takeaways provide valuable insight as to how things need to be handled in the future.
#3 Ensure MIner Support
When it comes to testnets for specific cryptocurrencies, they usually see far fewer miners compared to the live net. That is only normal, as testnet coins have no value, and the network requires little effort to ensure transactions can be processed. However, when things such as a hard fork upgrade are introduced, the lack of active miners can be quite problematic.
Ethereum’s Constantinople Hard Fork Hits the Testnet Next Week
Ethereum is somewhat struggling to maintain its position in the cryptocurrency market rankings. This is primarily because of the success of Ripple’s XRP, and the lack of scaling on Ethereum’s side. That latter aspect will come to change soon, as the Constantinople hard fork will go live on the Ropsten testnet in less than a week from today.
Taking Ethereum Scalability to a new Level
A lot of Ethereum enthusiasts have been looking forward to seeing their favorite currency scale well beyond its current levels. Developers have been exploring numerous options in this regard, and the roadmap was outlined over a year ago. Ethereum is set to undergo several hard forks to address key network drawbacks and concerns, with scaling being one of the top priorities.

Constellation Debuts Code and Network Visualization in Testnet Launch
Constellation Labs, a horizontally-scalable blockchain for consumer-grade applications, has announced the release of its testnet — the first version of Constellation’s base code. This launch begins a process of building out a small network of nodes, which communicate with each other in order to prevent “bad actors” on the system. The testnet’s primary goal is to accomplish both the handling and validation of basic transactions. Constellation’s testnet also demonstrates some of the system’s fundamental architectures, while enabling extensive testing of its core system’s functionality and stress-testing the node network.
Sharding Blockchain Developer Environment Live in Latest Testnet
Zilliqa, a new technology platform designed to solve the issues of scalability, security and efficiency currently in existing blockchains, has upgraded its public testnet and introduced an integrated developer environment for Scilla, its new programming language for developing secure and scalable smart contract applications. In addition, Zilliqa Testnet v2.0 has introduced more stability and security to the high-throughput network and will allow people to join and begin mining test transactions, a major step towards the public release of the platform in Q3 of 2018.
Waves Launching Smart Contracts on Testnet
On April 28th, Waves released the first iteration of smart contracts on its testnet. Now, activation is expected on May 3rd.
A Careful and Considered Approach to Smart Contracts
On Saturday, April 28th, Waves officially launched smart contracts on the platform’s testnet.
This first release effectively allows community members to test non-Turing complete contracts. These smart contracts allow for a variety of account controls, in addition to other functionalities. Ilya Smagin, Head of Development for Smart Contracts at Waves, commented:
Zilliqa Releases Public Testnet
Zilliqa, a new blockchain platform based on the technology of sharding to alleviate the scalability issue faced by current blockchain platforms, has announced the release of its public testnet. Ithis marks the first ever implementation of sharding used in a public, permissionless blockchain, opening the possibility of transaction rates that could match VISA.

ShadowCash Zero Knowledge Anonymity Public Testnet Round 2 Has Begun
A little while ago, we reported how ShadowCash’s Zero Knowledge Anonymity solution was available for testing on the public testnet. After receiving a lot of feedback from the SDC community, a second round of testing has begun. Let’s see what this round is all about, shall we?
The second round of ZK-shadow testing serves the same purpose as round one, as the plan is to test the viability of the current anonymity scheme. To be more specific, the testing of dual-key stealth addresses, unique ring signatures and non-interactive zero knowledge proofs.
