It is no secret that Bitcoin and charitable organizations seem to be made for each other. After all, most of the donations being made to charity are for rather small amounts – at least below US$100 – yet incur a rather high transaction fee from using traditional payment methods. As Bitcoin nullifies those fees for the most part – and is a borderless currency to boot – it can do a lot of good for charity in general. That ideology was shown once again during the recent Texas Bitcoin Conference.
US$51,000 In Donations From Bitcoin Companies & Enthusiasts
Just a few weeks ago, the Moody Center in Austin was home to the annual Texas Bitcoin Conference. Instead of focusing all of the attention on the technological advancements of Bitcoin and how it should be adopted by every person living on this earth, there was a great deal of attention in showing how Bitcoin can be beneficial towards a good cause.
As a result of shifting the focus, a lot of attendees made – sometimes even rather generous – donations during this two-day event. On top of that, private donations and charitable investments were also a big part of this event. In fact, the final donation was made to Sean’s Outpost in the form of US$1,550 by the Artificial Intelligence Coin Team.
Fun Fact: Artificial Intelligence Coin has not even launched yet, thus making them the world’s first digital currency to contribute to the community before the coin launch.
A long list of prominent sponsors made the Texas Bitcoin Conference 2015 a reality, including names such as Factom, Tether, Rivetz and the Chamber of Digital Commerce. By making the main theme of this convention “Charities & Nonprofits,”, it was a delight to see the focus shifted to a matter which is near and dear to all of us.
The aforementioned Sean’s Outpost charity was one of the four major charitable organizations who were honored during the Texas Bitcoin Conference 2015. The other three
Charities are the BitGive Foundation – who have been doing some amazing work in the past year -, Capital Area Food Bank of Texas and Without Regrets. All four charitable organizations received HOPE Gold Coins valued at US$10,000.
In total, US$51,000 has been raised in donations for all of these charitable organizations during the Texas Bitcoin Conference 2015. Needless to say, this event was a major success, not only for these charities but also for Bitcoin in general. This positive news also comes at an opportune time for Bitcoin, as the digital currency is going through a rather turbulent 2015 so far.
