Bitcoin and movies or documentaries seem to go well together; In fact, there are a few Bitcoin documentaries in existence, of which the most famous one is “The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin”. But not all movies have to be about the currency itself, we can also use Bitcoin to crowdfund a movie project. Kalifilm Productions had exactly the same idea, as they launched a bitcoin crowdfunding campaign for upcoming horror movie “The Stag Night”.
“The Stag Night” Details
“The Stag Night” is a name that might ring a bell with fans of the horror genre, as it is based on a radio play by Italian poet and novelist Andrea Cacciavillani. The original horror short is about three childhood friends who reunite at a cabin in the woods for a bachelor party. Needless to say, things will go horribly wrong from that point forward, so get ready for some suspense.
Filming locations for “The Stag Night” will be somewhere in the German forests, as well as in some historical places near Berlin. The “main attraction” of locations will be the 19th Neo-Gothic castle, which will be a great setting for a horror movie. Some of you might be wondering why the product has chosen to turn her attention to the Bitcoin community.
“Despite the price crash, we are optimistic and we still believe that Bitcoin is the future of arts funding because it allows independent filmmakers like us to raise a budget without giving away a large chunk of the funds to traditional crowdfunding platforms and payment services. We are in charge of our own resources”, says the director of the film, Lara Celenza.
In terms of distributing the horror movie, “The Stag Night” will be sent out to various film festivals all over the world, where it might even win a prize, assuming the crowdfunding is successful. Subsequently, the film will also be distributed online, where it will be dubbed as a “project funded by Bitcoin”. I would assume it will be distributed online in the same manner as “The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin” , where you can purchase a copy online and stream it on Vimeo (or a similar service).
Movie Perks For Contributors
As you would come to expect from any crowdfunding effort with a tangible product attached to it, Bitcoin enthusiasts who back the project will be entitled to certain perks. These perks range from a shout-out on social media to a movie premiere ticket in Berlin and even an Executive Producer IMDB Credit. (These perks depend on the amount you have pledged, for more information, click here.)
Kalifilm productions is hoping to raise 20,000 Euro for the project, or its equivalent in Bitcoin value. The funds will be used to pay the cast and crew, promotion of the film itself, distribution of “The Stag Night” and so forth. At the time of writing this article, 15 contributions have been made for a grand total of 3.1280 Bitcoin. But have no fear, as there is still plenty of time left before the Bitcon crowdfunding campaign ends.
Giving Back To The Bitcoin Community
Kalifilm Productions doesn’t just view Bitcoin as a valuable resource to finance the film itself, but they also want to give back to the Bitcoin community. In order to do so, as many Bitcoin-friendly freelancers and suppliers as possible will be enlisted for this project, both during the production and the post-production stages. If all goes to plan, the cast and crew will all be paid in Bitcoins whenever possible. Considering Berlin’s very positive attitude towards Bitcoin, this task should not be too difficult to complete.
“Please join our crowdfunding campaign and help us make this project a reality. If you can send us a tip, that’s great. If you can’t, we appreciate your support in the form of re-tweets and social media sharing. Our Twitter handle is @Kalifilm and the official hashtag for the campaign is #crypto4film. Finally, any constructive feedback and suggestions on how our campaign can be improved will be greatly appreciated.”, concludes Lara Celenza.
