In the world of Bitcoin, there are so many interesting and innovative ideas and projects going on that will never cease to amaze you. While there is a lot of focus on the monetary aspect of Bitcoin; exchange prices, volatility and so forth, as well as on the technology side; blockchain, sidechains, assets, you could almost forget that there are other things that matter too, like the Bitcoin Bus for example.
Keene, New Hampshire
Before you get any crazy ideas in your head, this is not a bus driving around the United States and handing out free Bitcoin at certain stops. As I’ve mentioned multiple times by now, there is no such thing as people giving away money unless it’s being sponsored by a major corporation. The Bitcoin Bus does none of that, but that doesn’t make it any less spectacular.
The United States have a large and well-documented history of interstate, large-vehicle liberty tours. In fact, most of these tours have all started or passed by the same spot on the map. This spot is located in Keene, New Hampshire, USA. With a population of 23,409 [according to 2010 statistics] you might be wondering what makes this town so unique.
Keene is the centre of insurance, education and tourism in the New Hampshire region and is best known for hosting the annual Pumpkin Fest. But that is not all, as Keene regularly hosts performances by community groups and has become home to an active voluntary group known as “Free Keene”, associated with the Free State Project.
On the topic of famous bus tours starting at or passing through the town of Keene, you may know names such as Motorhome Diaries and Liberty on Tour. But what may put Keene, New Hampshire, truly on the Bitcoin map is the new “uncoinventional” Bitcoin Bus tour, which will travel all across the Eastern United States.
John Bush & Catherine Bleish
The two “masterminds” behind the Bitcoin Bus tour are John Bush and Catherine Bleish. If you are a fan of the “Let’s Talk Bitcoin Network”, you may have listed to a podcast called SovereignBTC, which is hosted by John Bush. Furthermore, John is the executive producer of Sovereign Living, a reality show about him and his family trying to live “off the centralized grid” as much as possible.
Catherine Bleish is a well-respected writer for Bitcoin Magazine, Money and Tech and Yahoo Travel. You may have seen her appear on the Sovereign Living reality show as well, as she is married to John. Or you may have seen Catherine in action during one of her speeches regarding alternate currencies, raising sovereign children or natural living across the US.
Catherine’s latest passion is all about introducing the unschooling community to the world of digital currency, at the same time presenting the virtues of unschooling to the digital currency community. And this is where the uncoinventional Bitcoin Bus tour comes into the picture, as it will serve as a platform to spread the word about Bitcoin and unschooling.
Notorious Stops Along The Way
John and Catherine will be joined by their two kids on this trip across the Eastern United States and their first stop will be in New York, famous for its BitLicense proposal to regulate Bitcoin. The family have one goal in mind: only spend bitcoins along the way to cover any and all expenses they encounter. It has to be noted that this is not the family’s first Bitcoin tour, yet it is the very first time they are using the Bitcoin Bus to reach their destination which is their hometown of Austin, Texas.
Such an undertaking would not be possible without some well-needed sponsorship in Bitcoin. LRN.FM is sponsoring the Bitcoin Bus itself – in Bitcoin of course! – as well as new companies such as WageCan. For those of you who have never heard of WageCan, they offer a Bitcoin-based Mastercard tied to a bank account in Hong Kong.
