The Netherlands are a very interesting place to keep an eye on for everyone who is involved with Bitcoin in some way. Especially when it comes to projects such as Arnhem Bitcoincity, as their list of participating retailers keeps growing on a regular basis. In fact, two more places have recently started accepting Bitcoin payments, bringing the total number of participants to 48.
Considering the Arnhem Bitcoincity project started off less than a year ago, a lot of retailers have taken a liking to Bitcoin as a form of payment. Every retailer will receive their Bitcoin payments in the form of fiat currency payments with 0% fees, thanks to BitKassa. And even though the number of transactions might be relatively low, and the revenue from Bitcoin payments isn’t that high just yet, the charts show a clear interest from people willing to pay all kinds of goods with Bitcoin.
Cook & Book Now Accepts Bitcoin
It is always great to see more retailers joining initiatives such as Arnhem Bitcoincity. As you may judge from its name, Cook & Book is a bookshop selling cookbooks. However, they are not the first bookstore to start accepting Bitcoin payments, as both De Noorderzon (travel books) and Hijman Ongerijmd preceded Cook & Book in that regard.
Cook & Book offers the biggest catalogue of cookbooks in the city of Arnhem, and is a well established name in the city itself. Store owner Riejanne Schimmel is very passionate about cooking and everything revolving around it. In fact, she even reads cookbooks in bed, whereas most other people would read a regular book.
Even-Naar-Sofietje : Buy Toys with Bitcoin
One of the more unique additions to the Arnhem Bitcoincity project has to be the “Even-Naar-Sofietje” toy store. In fact, Even-Naar-Sofietje only recently opened its doors to the public, and they started accepting Bitcoin payments from day one. A rather bold and brave choice by the store owners, so it will be interesting to see if that decision will pay off in the long run.
Note from the author : Bitcoin is an alternative payment method at Even-Naar-Sofietje, as they also accept more traditional payment methods.
The Even-Naar-Sofietje store consists of two different buildings, one of which houses gifts and unique toys for adults, whereas the other building focuses on secondhand toys. This store is a most welcome addition to the Arnhem Bitcoincity project, as they are the very first toy store to join the Bitcoin revolution in this city.
