Nearly every Bitcoin enthusiast around the world knows how open The Netherlands are to Bitcoin and digital currencies. Popular initiatives such as Arnhem Bitcoinstad are bringing in lots of positive media attention to Bitcoin. By the looks of it, things have been take to a whole new level in Arnhem, as they now have their very own Bitcoin supermarket!
Spar, which is a well-known brand of supermarkets around Europe and beyond, has one of their shops in Arnhem Centraal (near the central station). This shop is now accepting in-store Bitcoin payments for anything and everything they are selling. The addition of Spar Arnhem Centraal brings the number of shop owners participating in the Arnhem Bitcoinstad project to 40.
Spar Arnhem Centraal is a relatively new shop, as they opened their doors in March of this year. The shop is well situated though, as it can be found at walking distance from the central station, and can be found along the way when heading towards Arnhem’s town center.
As far as products being sold go, Spar Arnhem Centraal offers a lot of goods aimed at direct consumption, but you can also find more traditional products such as fresh fruit and vegetables, and frozen goods. Each and every day, the team is baking sandwiches in the shop itself.
In order to accept Bitcoin payments at the register, Spar Arnhem Centraal has integrated the popular Dutch payment solution called BitKassa. This allows the shop owner to accept Bitcoin payments and still get paid in fiat currency (EUR) , eliminating any Bitcoin price volatility along the way.
