Bitcoin tipping is fun and easy to do, yet it also provides an additional revenue stream for content-creators. We are not just talking about bloggers, but any type of content creator who can benefit from a few Bitcoin tips. Especially if they live in countries with a very weak and unstable financial ecosystem, such as Argentina.
Taringa! – An Argentinian Social Network
Free speech is one of our species’ most valuable commodities and privileges, which also means it needs to be cherished and protected accordingly. That being said, not every country’s government officials are keen on letting people speak their mind freely, especially when it comes to social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
Internet-related services provide a platform to enable free speech for anyone using them, but it never hurts to create some more competition in this space. Taringa! was launched in January of 2004, and allows any user in the world to create and share information, experiences and content. More importantly, there are no intermediaries or censorship involved.
As you would come to expect from any social networking platform, there are certain rules to adhere to. Taringa! does not allow users to post and share explicit adult content, but other than that, any content is welcomed with open arms. And seeing how the platform is being visited by over 75 million people each and every day, there seems to be a major interest in using a service such as Taringa!.
Fast forward these statistics to today and Taringa! has become the largest and most popular social network created in Latin America. In fact, Taringa! has become the second largest social media network – in traffic at least – after Facebook. It goes without saying this platform has gained a massive foothold in South America.
Considering the fact that Taringa! is sort of a disruptive social network in South America, it was only a matter of time until they decided to integrate Bitcoin in some way, shape or form. Especially considering the social network’s business model involved expanding their services to reward content creators and contributors down the line.
In order to do so, a proper solution has to be found. Rather than developing a new “credit” system, the Taringa! team weighed every possible option carefully. Eventually, there remained only one viable solution which does not require its users to own a bank account, and that is Bitcoin.
However, it is important to note that the “use Bitcoin to reward users” option would not be possible without a partnership with Xapo. Or to be more precise, it was Xapo’s Founder & CEO Wences Casares who approached Taringa! regarding the possibility of integrating Bitcoin into their platform in some form.
Increase in Content Creation
The Bitcoin tipping integration seems to be leading towards a massive increase in content creation on the Taringa! platform. According to the information we have received, there seems to be a 40% increase in the creation and publication of unique content, which can be attributed to the platform’s ad-revenue sharing model.
Taringa Creadores is the name of the platform’s ad-revenue sharing model, which is meant to incentivize sharing user-generated content on the Taringa! platform. As a content creator, you will receive a share of advertising revenue, distributed in Bitcoin and deposited into your Xapo wallet. Plus, as a creator, you receive 10 daily points to distribute among other users.
As you would come to expect, every point represents a Bitcoin tip to other Taringa! users. As of right now, there are only 2,000 eligible users who are testing the initiative in its beta stage. It will be interesting to see whether or not Taringa Creadores will become a major success when it is released to the public, which is something we will be keeping a close eye on.
